Chelek 29, Vaeschanan 3
לזכות רפואה שלמה לשרה פערל בת אלישבע
The Timing of Reward
From the final words of Vaeschanan
There is so much to learn,
About the precious mitzvah reward
That every Jew will earn.
"Today" is when we do the mitzvos—
Each mitzvah is a gem.
"Tomorrow" in Olam Haba,
We'll take the reward for them!
Hashem treats the wicked and righteous
In a very different way.
The wicked get rewarded in this world,
Without delay.
So they won't receive reward again
In Olam Haba one day.
For every good deed they once performed,
They are paid in this world today.
For the righteous there are three gifts
That Hashem gives with care.
Let's open them one by one
And see what's waiting there!
🎁 Gift Number One
The first is special blessings
To help us do our share.
Healthy children, health, and livelihood
Are gifts beyond compare.
They are the tools we need to fulfill
Each mitzvah, one by one.
Helping us carry out Hashem's will
Until our work is done.
🎁 Gift Number Two
Secondly, the Torah teaches
Physical reward is given too.
Hashem's like a king who pays His workers
For the work they gladly do.
But we don't get to choose the time
Our reward will come our way.
Sometimes the Heavenly Court delays it
For another day.
🎁 Gift Number Three
Thirdly, in the World to Come we'll take
The reward for every step we make.
Why doesn't Rashi use the word “receive”?
Why does he specifically use “take”?
Rashi is teaching something new,
A lesson rich and deep.
No obstacle will stand in our way—
Our reward is ours to keep.
It will be up to me and you
To take what we deserve.
Enjoying Hashem's endless light
Will be how we will serve.
This answers a question that we raise:
How will we serve in Moshiach's days?
We'll take Hashem's great light,
His radiance we'll adore,
Growing ever closer to Hashem
Forevermore.
Moshiach is compared to Shabbos—
There's a lesson waiting there.
Just like the Rabbinic court is closed
Each Shabbos down here,
When Moshiach comes, the Heavenly Court
Will close its door.
We'll take our reward with endless joy—
No waiting anymore!
