Chelek 28, Yud Beis Sivan

When the Yidden came to Yerushalayim for the Shalosh Rigalim,

To bring sacrifices they had an obligation,

But for everyone to bring their sacrifices on one day would be a great feat,

So they were given a total of 7 catch up days so that this task they could complete.

Since the Shalosh Regalim are listed together the Gemara does derive,

That after Shavuos there are days five,

That are Tashlumin - a festival catch up period,

Therefore the Alter Rebbe rules that on these days Tachanun isn't recited.

To Pesach and Sukkos how does Shavuos compare?

There is a big difference it is clear,

The catch up days for Pesach and Sukkos are holy,

While the catch up days for Shavuos are on weekdays that are ordinary.

There are two opinions about the Tashlumin,

1. The first day of Yom Tov is the primary obligation.

All the Korbanos that are brought are to catch up for day one,

If a boy is 12 on the first day of Pesach he is not obligated to bring a Korban.

2. The obligation applies to all seven days equally,

And each day compensates for the other if necessary.

If a boy has his Bar Mitzvah during the week of the Pesach or Sukkos holiday,

His obligation to bring a Korban starts that day.

This debate only applies to Pesach and Sukkos,

Because there is only one day of Shavuos.

The details aren't the same it is true,

But the concept of catch up days applies to Shavuos too.

Now that we know that Shavuos has Tashlumin,

With the theme of Shavuos the catch up days will fit in.

The novelty of Shavuos is that we were chosen,

From every other nation.

Choice's true meaning,

Is when out of absolute free will, one selects something.

The selection is made solely out of one's own desire,

Without any external factor compelling the chooser.

The advantage of a choice that is made without any outside influence,

Is that it comes from the essence.

The essence of the chooser is expressed,

And in his choice he does invest.

Before Matan Torah, Hashem chose the Yidden,

He called them “My firstborn son, Israel” when they were still in Mitzrayim.

The Yidden were distinct from the rest,

Because their virtues and qualities were the best.

At Matan Torah a bond was forged between the Yidden and Hashem,

From His very essence and being it did stem.

Hashem didn't choose us because we were so fine,

From His essence He said I want you to be mine!

Before Matan Torah the Yidden served Hashem because He is the Creator,

And the G-d of Avraham their forefather,

But their essence wasn't invested in the service,

It did not permeate their essence.

When Hashem chose the Yidden from His free will He gave us the ability,

To choose Hashem from our essence unconditionally.

Without any external motivation or logical calculation,

With our own free choice we serve Hashem with complete devotion!

This answers the question of why the souls of the Yidden,

Departed from their bodies when they heard the commandments with reason,

Every commandment touched the essence of their soul, even do not steal and kill,

Because the reason we observe them is only in order to fulfill Hashem's will.

Since Shavuos is about free choice,

On Shavuos we abstain from labor and rejoice,

But Shavuos doesn't have any specific Mitzvah,

Like Pesach which has Matza and Sukkos which has Sukkah.

The other festivals express a particular dimension,

Of the connection between Hashem and the Yidden,

But to a specific commandment Shavuos can't be confined,

As a time to celebrate our essential connection to Hashem it is designed.

On the catch up days for Shavuos, on ordinary weekday skies,

The flames to burn the Korbanos rise.

Sacrifices on other festivals are only brought when specific revelations descend,

But the bounds of time Shavuos does transcend.

The other festivals are connected to a revelation from heaven,

Vested within attributes seven,

But for Shavuos only one day was given,

Because it represents the level of oneness that is above division.

The catch up days for Shavuos, aren't plain,

They remind us that our relationship with Hashem is above what we can gain.

The bond between Hashem and the Yidden intertwine,

Joined together by free choice which is beyond time.
